Concept or Theme Map Instructions: · You are to work with a partner. You may choose your partners! · If you need to work outside of the classroom, you can contact each other using the wiki · Decide on a theme or concept from Of Mice and Men that you are both interested in, or that you are both working with for your essay
Your job is to create a concept map that will PROVE a theme in the Of Mice and Men. You will use elements such as plot, characterization, symbolism and setting to prove this theme. Place the THEME STATEMENT or CONCEPT in the centre of your poster. (It should be the size of 2 A4 pieces of paper) Your evidence should be interconnected and lead to your theme/concept.
REMEMBER that the linking words, which show the connections between the words, are crucial! You will also need to include textual support (quotations and page numbers) to provide evidence to prove the concepts you place on the map. For example, if you wrote down the symbol of the snake and the heron, you would include a quotation and a page number which shows that your statement about it was true!
You will be given 2-3 hours of class time (approximately) to work on this assignment. Any additional time will have to come after school hours as homework. Your maps will be displayed in the classroom and you will present yours to the rest of the class on completion. We will discuss your presentation later in class, but, if you have any questions: · Ask your partner · Ask your peers · Ask Mr. W!
Your concept map will be graded on its content, evidence, clarity and creativity!
